The largest integrated healthcare system in New Jersey, RWJBarnabas Health, and Jersey City Medical Center are seeking an experienced and ambitious physician to nurture and lead the Department of Medicine in Jersey City, New Jersey as Chair of Medicine. This is the perfect opportunity for a dynamic physician with proven leadership experience to oversee the clinical, educational, administrative, and research activities of the Department of Medicine while continuing to grow a busy faculty practice. This position will also open qualified candidates to the opportunity for faculty appointment with the Department of Medicine at Rutgers.

This is a hands-on role with a strong focus on clinical and academic program growth including communicating departmental needs to management and senior administrators, improving and maintaining the department’s image and reputation, coordinating activities with outside groups, and related activities. This position also offers the opportunity to facilitate communication and collaboration between Jersey City Medical Center employed physicians and community providers.

The Chair of Medicine will additionally be responsible for professional leadership and development. The Chair will take charge of creating programs, fostering the development of individual faculty and staff members, stimulating clinical and scholarly excellence, and representing the department at meetings and professional societies. A central task for this role will be overseeing the growth of our neurology and cardiovascular services, as well as the continued nurturing of our fellowship, residency and research programs.

Responsibilities for this Position:

  • Management of staff including recruitment and retention of staff, maintaining an active, well-defined communication network, appointing departmental members to committees, establishing and coordinating faculty and staff development, periodically evaluating faculty and staff, and providing fiscal accountability.
  • Office management including managing departmental facilities and equipment, supervising and evaluating staff, and maintaining departmental records.
  • Responsible for preparing and administering departmental budgets.
  • Oversight of graduate medical education and undergraduate medical education performed within the department.
  • Oversight of external communications including communication of departmental needs to management and senior administrators, improving and maintaining the department’s image and reputation, coordinating activities with outside groups, and related activities.
  • Abide by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Medical Staff Rules and Regulations, and Departmental Rules and Regulations and fulfills all responsibilities as defined for the Chair position in the Medical Staff Bylaws.

 

Position Requirements:

  • Board-certified in a Medicine specialty.
  • 5-10 years of clinical experience. (Preferred)
  • Be a recognized, reputable leader in their discipline with an exemplary record of scholarly and clinical distinction.
  • Personal and managerial skills to direct the department in a manner concordant with the mission of the institution.
