Occupational and Environmental Medicine Leadership Position

Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is nationally recognized for promoting the health and well-being of its workforce. We are seeking a physician leader who can create, sustain, and advance our programs. Occupational Medicine at Dartmouth Hitchcock includes:

  • The Occupational Medicine clinic that deals with complex work injury and illness management, clinical toxicology, fitness-for-duty assessments, functional assessments, return-to-work evaluations, independent medical examinations, permanent impairment ratings, disability management, pre-placement evaluations, and medical surveillance.
  • The Employee Well-being program that promotes healthy life habits.
  • The Department of Caregiver Well-being that addresses the unique challenges front-line caregivers face.

Previous leaders in occupational medicine have chosen to serve both as Section Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Medical Director of Employee Well-being. The successful candidate will lead a team of multidisciplinary occupational health professionals to advance the health, safety, and well-being of the Dartmouth Health workforce. The candidate will be expected to grow a nationally recognized, comprehensive, integrated health protection and health promotion program in a collaborative, academic environment. Our program is a National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Total Worker Health® Affiliate.

The role includes administrative, academic, and clinical responsibilities. The candidate will also oversee the quality and finances of clinical services and provide occupational medical direction to our partner organizations. 

Opportunities for hyperbaric medicine also are available for qualified and interested applicants.

The candidate will share responsibility with the Chair of Medicine for the Section’s teaching, research, and faculty career development. This position includes bedside teaching and didactic lecturing with opportunities to engage in all aspects of the academic mission. Salary and academic appointment at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth will be commensurate with experience and training.

The successful candidate will also demonstrate critical thinking, team orientation, cross-disciplinary/interdepartmental collaboration, and a leadership style that includes excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and management skills.

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • Board-certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine in Occupational Medicine or Public Health and General Preventive Medicine.
  • Eligible for medical licensing in New Hampshire.
  • Strong public health, communication, team leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Experience in academic medicine or public health.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years of direct occupational health care clinical and programmatic experience.
  • Experience leading and managing clinical care teams and programs.
  • Background in medical center occupational health.
