Overview

The Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine of Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks two physician faculty members to join its growing academic department. This faculty position includes full-time academic appointment as a core faculty member in the Department of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience. 

 

The department has 114 faculty members with clinical and full time academic appointments in general pediatrics as well as pediatric subspecialties. The pediatric residency program has 30 pediatric residents, with an additional 16 medicine-pediatrics residents. The pediatric infectious disease faculty will work with the current group of infectious diseases faculty that includes one pediatric and adult infectious disease faculty and four adult infectious diseases faculty.

Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have strong clinical and teaching skills to provide high quality patient care and both medical student and resident education. The faculty will participate fully in the development and implementation of pediatric infectious disease curriculum and teaching for medical students and residents. The faculty time and effort will be proportionally allocated to different activities based on the departmental and medical school need and individual interest and expertise. These include clinical responsibilities and teaching in clinical settings, teaching in non-clinical settings, curriculum development, research, academic activities, and service or defined other role.

Qualifications

  • Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics for Pediatric Infectious Diseases or eligibility to become board certified.
  • MD or DO or equivalent.
  • Licensure to practice medicine in the state of Michigan.

WMed Health is the clinical practice of the medical school with more than 300 providers offering comprehensive primary care and specialty services in several locations throughout Kalamazoo, Portage, and Battle Creek. The Department of Pathology faculty serve as the Office of the Medical Examiner for counties throughout Michigan and northern Indiana.

 

The W.E. Upjohn M.D. Campus located in downtown Kalamazoo serves as the primary educational facility with faculty and administrative offices, student study and social spaces, team-based learning halls, a state-of-the-art Simulation Center accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare, basic science research labs, as well as toxicology and forensic pathology labs.
