THE CORPORAL MICHAEL J CRESCENZ VA MEDICAL CENTER (CMCVAMC) AND THE CARDIOVASCULAR DIVISON IN THE DEPARTMENT OF MEDICINE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA are seeking an MD or MD/PhD cardiac electrophysiologist who is board certified in in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Diseases and board eligible in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology. The successful candidate will be based at the CMCVAMC and will also have appointment and clinical responsibilities at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.
Applicants must have training and documented skills in performing transseptal puncture, advanced arrhythmia ablation including AF and VT ablation, and epicardial mapping. Additionally, candidates should be trained in all aspects of cardiac arrhythmia management devices including the implantation of pacemakers, ICDs, CRT devices, loop recorders, and lead extraction. Working knowledge of sophisticated EP mapping and recording systems is required. The demonstrated ability to perform complex arrhythmia ablations and device implantations without onsite cardiac surgery availability is also required. Other specific clinical responsibilities required of the candidate include outpatient consultative cardiology (including Telehealth), and inpatient attending on the coronary care unit and consultative services. Also required is competency in cardioversion, resuscitation, and temporary pacing.
Teaching medical students, house staff and cardiology fellows is a required responsibility for this position with particular preference given to those applicants who have been formally recognized for their teaching ability. A research background in atrial and ventricular tachyarrhythmia mechanisms and treatment is highly desirable. Faculty appointment as Clinical Instructor or Assistant Professor of Medicine will be in the non-tenure Academician-Clinician tract.
