Approximately 6 of its faculty members are employed by BIDMC, and approximately 30 are employed by HSL—including about 26 in HSL’s Marcus Institute for Aging Research and 7 in the HSL Department of Medicine. The successful applicant will be an experienced academician and clinician who will be able to provide leadership for all of the clinical, educational and scientific activities of the Division. They must be a highly capable and credible clinician who can command the respect of the outstanding clinical team. The successful applicant must have a clear record of leadership and administration, and must possess outstanding teaching skills. The Division oversees ongoing efforts to improve the quality of care for elderly patients admitted to the Medical Center.
The successful applicant will have a solid track record as an independent investigator in aging-related clinical, health services/policy, or epidemiological research. The Marcus Institute is one of the largest gerontological research facilities in a clinical setting in the U.S. Its research portfolio ranks us in the top 15% of institutions funded by the National Institutes of Health, and ranks number one among hospital-based geriatric research facilities. At the Marcus Institute, Divisional faculty conduct groundbreaking aging research in multiple areas, including; prevention and treatment of delirium, dementia care, mobility and falls, bone and nutritional health, care for older persons with serious illness, frailty, clinical trials, and data science. We anticipate that the successful applicant’s areas of research, national stature and experience, will make her or him eminently qualified to serve at the Marcus Institute as a senior scientist in a significant leadership role, such as a Marcus Deputy Director position or the Director of a specific research center, and further, to be considered for the Marcus Executive Director position over the next 3 – 5 years.
The Division anchors the highly-successful, Harvard-wide geriatrics fellowship program, and oversees the program’s training of interns and residents in geriatrics and teaching of geriatrics to HMS students.
