The University of Chicago's Department of Medicine, Section of Emergency Medicine, seeks to appoint Emergency Medicine Medical Administration Scholars who will receive training in medical operations and leadership.  Appointees will work approximately half time as an attending in our emergency department (ED) and spend the rest of their time on scholarly projects, educational activities and leadership development.  We especially welcome applicants with an interest in emergency department operations, quality improvement, or other administrative leadership interests.   There are two tracks available.  Appointees in the one-year track will hold a Master’s degree such as an MBA or MPH and will focus on operations in the University of Chicago Medicine’s ED.  Appointees in the two-year track are encouraged to obtain an MBA through the Chicago Booth School of Business (application and admission to the Booth School is a separate process, and tuition is not covered by the Section).

Compensation (including a generous package of fringe benefits) is dependent on qualifications.  The University of Chicago Medicine is a ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) receiving hospital, a Comprehensive Stroke Center, a Burn Center, and a Chicago South EMS regional resource hospital. The Adult ED has an annual volume of 75,000 patients per year and we are a Level 1 Adult and Pediatric Trauma Center.

Prior to the start of employment, qualified applicants must:  1) have a medical doctorate or equivalent, 2) hold or be eligible for medical licensure in the State of Illinois, 3) be Board certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine, 4) have completed an ACGME-approved residency or equivalent, and 5) have completed an MBA or MPH (track one applicants only).

To be considered, those interested must apply through The University of Chicago’s Academic Recruitment job board, which uses Interfolio to accept applications:  http://apply.interfolio.com/110761.  Applicants must upload a CV and a cover letter indicating the track of interest.  Review of applications ends when the positions are filled.
