Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Physician, with experience in writing and/or editing, for the unique position of Physician Editor. This is an opportunity to use your writing and editing skills and medical knowledge to contribute to clinical decision support and education for medical professionals and to patient education, and to use your creativity to help shape a digital health resource with an unprecedented global impact.

Work with the Manuals’ internal editorial team and over 400 leading academic external contributors to provide high quality clinical information to professionals and consumers.  The Manuals, a trusted resource since 1899, is now an innovative digital platform on the web and mobile applications that reaches a global professional and consumer audience. The Manuals provide free access to medical information translated into 13 languages and are viewed by more than 800 million users each year.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Edit and write manuscripts to ensure completeness, accuracy, currency, style consistency, and clinical relevance.

  • Research clinical content for manuscripts.

  • Work with lay editors and external contributors to finalize manuscripts.

  • Manage individual projects as directed by management

  • Help identify, develop, and review digital content for the Manuals, such as videos, images, quizzes, cases, and other enhanced content.

  • Work with the Manuals’ social media managers to develop and review social media campaigns and content, as needed.

  • Assist in the development and training of lay editors if needed.

  • Participate in appropriate professional company activities.

  • Participate in promotional activities for the Manuals.

  • Remain clinically astute and well informed.

Education Minimum Requirement: 

  • MD or DO degree

Required Experience and Skills -

  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience and demonstrated writing skills

  • Demonstrated skills in writing and editing medical text, and experience in teaching medical subjects

Desired Experience and Skills - 

  • Experience in an academic medical institution

  • Experience with interactive digital clinical tools, and social media

  • Demonstrated strong project management and leadership/team management skills

  • Demonstrated ability to write on medical subjects for a lay audience

  • Experience in writing test questions for medical professionals

  • Ability to work on location in Upper Gwynedd
