Description
Suffolk County, New York, where Stony Brook University is situated, is currently facing a growing opioid epidemic. This, in an addition to the other substance Use Disorders, has led to the need for a Director of Addiction Psychiatry. Stony Brook University Hospital, as well as community hospitals that are part of Stony Brook Medicine that operate NYS licensed SUD inpatient and outpatient programs, will require a coordinated effort to help address the county-wide problem.
The Director will be tasked with providing the clinical, educational and research programs for substances of abuse and coordinate efforts between hospitals and clinics. The Director will work with the Hospitals and the School of Medicine to provide comprehensive services across the spectrum. The Director will routinely collaborate with internal and external stakeholders when developing programs and moving the community toward a prevention model. The Director will be expected to recruit and retain junior and mid-level clinicians and scientists, and work collaboratively with faculty and staff at affiliated institutions.
Required Qualifications:
- MD or DO.
- Demonstrated expertise in addiction medicine.
- Experience running a multidisciplinary team of practitioners.
- Board-Certified in Addiction Psychiatry.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership experience in building and expanding substance use disorder services across a health system.
- History of applying for and running an addictions psychiatry fellowship.
- History of federal grant funding.

Non-Tenure Track position. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. To qualify for a senior faculty appointment, the candidate must meet the criteria established by the School of Medicine (School of Medicine's Criteria for Appointment, Promotion and Tenure).

In accordance with the New York State Department of Health (DOH) regulation that all hospitals and nursing homes “continuously require all personnel to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19,” Candidates who are not already vaccinated must obtain the first dose of the vaccine within three (3) calendar days of acceptance of conditional job offer and must obtain any subsequent doses in accordance with the vaccine protocol.
