This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. The VA Ann Arbor Health System (VAAAHS) is seeking applicants for a full time academic position at the Assistant Professor level or higher with an interest and expertise in genitourinary malignancies. This individual will be appointed through our academic affiliate, the University of Michigan, Department of Internal Medicine and affiliated with the Genitourinary Program in the Division of Hematology Oncology. We seek an ambitious investigator to help drive clinical research and assume PI of the prestigious prostate cancer foundation award at the Rahr Center of Excellence at the VAAAHS. Responsibilities will include clinical care (out-patient, in-patient and telehealth) of Veterans with GU cancers, overseeing the PCF award, opening prostate cancer specific trials as part of the precision oncology program, improve outreach participation in these trails and engage in translational research, partnering with the world class Chinnaiyan laboratory (MIONCOSEQ program) at the University of Michigan. The successful applicant must be vested in providing outstanding oncological care, including access to clinical trials to Veterans. The VAAAHS has capabilities for multidisciplinary cancer care, outstanding trainees that enrich the learning environment in addition to mentoring resources that enable success in obtaining peer reviewed funding through a VA Merit Award mechanism. The VA Ann Arbor Health system has consistently been recognized for excellence in innovative research. The successful candidate should be board certified or eligible in Medical Oncology and hold or be eligible for medical licensure in Michigan and must be a US Citizen. Additional duties involve overseeing prostate cancer specific clinical trials, providing expertise to virtual molecular tumor boards and serving as a member of the IRB. Educational duties will involve education of medical students, residents and fellows in the out-patient and in-patient settings. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Provide direct Oncology care to Veterans in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Evaluation and treatment of patients with known or suspected solid tumor malignancies, with specific emphasis on prostate cancer. Provide supervision to Oncology fellows, medical residents, and medical students. Participate in didactic education for Oncology fellows, medical residents, and medical students. Providing inpatient and outpatient Oncology consultation and Oncology clinic evaluation and follow up. Prescribing and overseeing chemotherapy, targeted therapy and immunotherapy. Participation in on-call duties after hours, on weekends, and on holidays as needed. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Citizenship. Citizen of the United States. (Noncitizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with section A, chapter 3, paragraph 3g, this part.) Education. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, facility officials must verify with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) that the applicant has met requirements for certification, and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate, if claimed by the applicant. NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities. The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area. Licensure and Registration. Physicians must possess a current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. The physician must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active, current licensure. Impaired Licensure. A physician who has, or has ever had, any license(s) revoked, suspended, denied, restricted, limited, or issued/placed in a probationary status may be appointed only in accordance with the provisions of chapter 3, section B, paragraph 14 of this part. Waiver of Licensure. Licensure requirements may be waived by the Under Secretary for Health or designee in Central Office for individuals in research, academic, or administrative assignments involving no direct patient care responsibilities in accordance with current regulations. In addition, the facility Director may waive this licensure requirement if the physician is to serve in a country other than the United States and the physician has licensure in that country. (See section B, chapter 3, paragraph 14 of this part, on waiver of licensure provisions.) NOTE: Individuals who have or have had multiple licenses and had any such license revoked for professional misconduct, professional incompetence or substandard care, or who surrendered such license after receiving written notice of potential termination of such license by the State for professional misconduct, professional incompetence, or substandard care, are not eligible for appointment to the position unless such revoked or surrendered license is fully restored (38 U.S.C. § 7402(f)). This requirement does not apply to licensed physicians on VA rolls as of November 30, 1999, provided they maintain continuous appointment and are not disqualified for employment by any subsequent revocations or voluntary surrenders of State license, registration or certification. Residency Training. Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA Physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.)
