Hospitalist

Job Duties: Perform medical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment to assigned in-patients. Prescribe pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assess medical conditions. Refer patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components. Direct and coordinate patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required. Participate in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs. Follow established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards. Provide physician services to assigned patients. Admit patients for hospital stays and attend inpatient consults in areas of specialty. Communicate with patients’ primary care physicians upon admission when treatment plans change or at discharge to maintain continuity and quality of care. Diagnose, treat, or provide continuous care to hospital inpatients. Attend inpatient consultations in areas of specialty. Order or interpret the results of tests such as lab tests and radiographs. Prescribe medications or treatment regimens to hospital inpatients. Write patient discharge summaries and send them to primary care physicians.

Minimum requirements: Medical degree or foreign equivalent, completion of residency training program in internal medicine, Board eligible or Board certified in Internal Medicine, and a Georgia Medical License.
