President & Chief Executive Officer, Regenstrief Institute

The Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University School of Medicine invites applications for the position of President and Chief Executive Officer, Regenstrief Institute (CEO).

The Regenstrief Institute was established in 1969 as a medical research and development organization focused on improving quality of care, increasing efficiency of healthcare delivery, preventing medical errors, and enhancing patient safety. With a vision to improve care through innovation, the work of the Regenstrief Institute (RI) was a pioneer in the development of the electronic health record and continues today to live at the intersection of medicine, research, technology, and engineering. On the campus of Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM), RI serves as a collaborative center for faculty investigators, research center support teams, and central administration. Key stakeholders include sponsoring organizations, Regenstrief Foundation and IU, along with Eskenazi Health, IU Health, the Richard L. Roudebush Veterans’ Administration Medical Center, Indiana Health Information Exchange (IHIE), and the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), among others.

The successful candidate will have a progressive track record of leadership, strategy, and operational experience. They will lead the Institute’s evolution of vision, culture, administrative, and organizational structure that will further enable RI to execute on its mission. The new CEO will focus on increasing the awareness and reputation of the Institute, as well as expanding its capabilities to translate data and innovation into strategic partnerships with the health care and biotech industries, among other stakeholders. They will balance the Institute’s mission of service and research to create a unified platform where pioneering innovation meets applied technology.

Combining the strengths of health services, informatics, and aging research to positively impact humanity towards a goal of a healthier population and improve lives through data collection and its application, the CEO will enhance the Institute’s national stature as a source for data resources, advancing health equity, and to leverage the power of the Institute to increase synergies across different institutions. They will have a strong reputation and record of achievement in extramurally funded research that will command the respect of Institute faculty, as well as the business acumen and cultural intelligence to lead a high-performing research institution. They must be able to assess the institution’s readiness for change, challenge past assumptions, anticipate new externalities, and adjust strategies and goals as appropriate. They must demonstrate the interpersonal skills that will assure successful relationship building with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, staff, institutional leadership, federal funding agencies, donors, and affiliated organizations, including a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

Qualified candidates are those who: hold a terminal degree (MD, PhD, or MD/PhD) with a relevant history of funding; and are eligible for licensure in the state of Indiana, if MD, and a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Professor level in the Indiana University. Appointment type is open and will be determined based on academic credentials.
