Essential Duties: Medical Director of Behavioral Health Outpatient Services is to provide leadership though engagement and alignment of providers, patients, staff, payers and the community for Behavioral Health care.  The primary focus of this position will be the achievement of high value Behavioral Health Services through the creation of an integrated Behavioral Health continuum-of-care that is patient & family centered, cost efficient and outcome focused.

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

 

  • Executive Medical Director Luminis Behavioral Health Services Vice President, Behavioral Health Medical Director –Behavioral Health Services-Lanham Clinical Director Psychiatric Day Hospital Supervisor LHCE Mental Health Specialists Director of Finance Behavioral Health Outpatient Therapists

Strategic Objective: Sustain and enhance quality of care for all hospital-based services while working closely with internal/external community partners to create a non-hospital-based system of care that provides services when and where they are needed to ensure in-need populations receive the care they need in the least intensive/least restrictive environment.

 

  • Leads the recruitment and retention of an appropriate staffing model in which prescribers (MDs, Psych NPs) work to the highest level of their license and provide clinical leadership in all Behavioral Health settings. Lead Prescribers and Providers (Social Workers/Therapists) in selection/development and implementation of appropriate care pathways/guidelines to reduce unwarranted variation in care. Continuously educates self and team on the latest quality initiatives for the population served. Provides educational opportunities for medical students and others in need of contemporary Behavioral Health standards of care across numerous service delivery sights. Provides advice concerning participation in affiliation or other teaching agreements between system and educational institution Presents or publish and encourage others on behalf of Luminis Health regarding topics of relevance to departmental leadership, clinical improvements Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiencies and resource allocation related to the delivery of care Leads Outpatient Behavioral Health Services on the Lanham campus for the journey towards a High Reliability Organization setting expectations for clinical excellence, harm reduction and high patient satisfaction. Reviews and analyzes performance data and presents data to the respective Health System Quality Councils and others as requested. Provides oversight for compliance with the policies and procedures of the Psychiatric Day Hospital, LHCE Mental Health Specialists the Joint Commission (JC), Maryland Department of Health and other accrediting agencies, and the Medical Staff Bylaws.

Qualifications: 

 

Medical Degree with appropriate board certification Master’s degree in public health or business administration preferred (or equivalent work experience) 3-5 years’ experience in an administrative leadership role with associated responsibilities to include budget and quality Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary Behavioral Health Services across the continuum-of-care. Experience in value-based or alternative payment models preferred Excellent communication skills. Experience leading in a matrixed organization reaching across the enterprise and working collaboratively with numerous constituencies. Master clinician associated with an academic stature that will enhance credibility across the health system. Demonstrated ability to recruit and mentor Behavioral Health specialists Evidence of successful research and scholarly activities Experience working in an academic medical center or complex teaching environment

Required License/Certifications:

 

Licensed to practice in the State of Maryland; Board Certified
