UW-Madison Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) has two standout clinics with opportunities for Family Medicine physician faculty to provide patient care with obstetrics (OB) and teach in and near Madison, WI. The clinics with vacancies are: UW Health Deforest-Windsor and Sun Prairie clinics. Both locations are located on the northeast side of Madison about 10 miles from downtown. 

Highlights of the opportunities:

  • Provide full spectrum family medicine skills, including maternity care (OB) and opportunities to do procedures in clinic.
  • Opportunity to teach medical students in the clinics, as well as residents in the hospital setting with OB care.
  • Each clinic offers mentorship (with 9-13 physicians at each clinic).
  • Additional opportunity to apply for teaching options within the medical school.
  • The support of an academic center provides additional growth opportunities, professional development, and committees to promote personal growth.
  • Work-life balance is a priority. Shared call pool (outpatient clinic call all over the phone, and OB deliveries at Meriter Hospital).
  • Each of these clinics are located in growing areas, with an opportunity to build your patient panel quickly.

Requirements:

 

  • MD or DO required.
  • Family Medicine Residency.
  • Wisconsin medical license is required prior to start date.
  • Certified by or eligible for certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.

The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) is currently the fifth-ranked Academic Family Medicine Department in the United States. This department is a distinctly large, tier-one clinical department in the University of Wisconsin School Of Medicine and Public Health (SMPH) based on size, scope, and complexity. The DFMCH and associated UW Health clinic operation has over 800 employees, including 172 faculty. An additional 253 clinical adjunct faculty are located throughout the state. The DFMCH trains over 150 residents and teaches over 500 medical students each year. Our physicians and residents practice at 17 clinics located throughout the state. The clinical practice is integral to the success of the department and UW Health due to the high volume of patients seen in our clinics with over 348,000 visits per year. The DFMCH has research funding from NIH, private industry and a wide variety of private foundations with funding exceeding $8 Million in FY2019. Research interests include addiction and substance misuse, prevention and treatment; infectious disease surveillance; systems-engineering approaches for improving ambulatory care; and practice-based research to improve health outcomes for the state of Wisconsin.
