The UAB Division of Cardiovascular Surgery is seeking a highly qualified Board Certified / Board Eligible cardiothoracic surgeon to join its community based practice located at the UAB Medicine Multispecialty Clinic at Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery, Alabama.
The successful candidate will join one other UAB cardiothoracic surgeon in the Montgomery practice. These surgeons are supported by 19 cardiothoracic surgeons in the UAB Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the UAB Medicine main campus 85 miles north of Montgomery. UAB cardiothoracic surgeons began the partnership with Baptist Medical Center South to run the program in 2017. The program has seen steady growth and is currently performing 140 open heart surgeries, 51 thoracic surgeries, 39 TAVR procedures, and 122 Watchman procedures annually. The surgeons perform all aspects of cardiac surgery (except LVAD and transplant services) and general thoracic surgery. The current practice is 85% cardiac and 15% thoracic. UAB cardiothoracic surgeons offer expertise in multiarterial coronary artery bypass surgery, minimally invasive valve surgery, arrhythmia surgery, mitral valve repair, aortic valve repair, thoracic aortic surgery, thoracoscopic lung resection and mediastinal surgery. There is also a Da Vinci XI robot available to perform robotic cases. The UAB cardiothoracic program is supported by 3 experienced mid-level providers and an office based RN who assist the surgeons with surgery, inpatient rounding and outpatient clinical care. There is also opportunity to teach UAB medical students and residents affiliated with the UAB Regional School of Medicine located at Baptist Medical Center South.
In addition, the Cardiovascular Care Center at Baptist Medical Center South has a specialty-trained cardiovascular team that supports two dedicated cardiothoracic OR’s, an 8 bed CVICU, a 22 bed CVSU step down unit, a 16 bed Cardiovascular Recovery Unit, an 8 bed CCU, a 25 bed general cardiology unit, 3 digital cath labs and 1 procedure lab. The Cardiovascular Care Center is supported by 17 private practice cardiologists who work closely with our UAB cardiothoracic surgeon team. In addition, Baptist Health also operates a regional cancer center with 9 oncologists and 5 radiation oncologists supporting cancer care in Montgomery.
The preferred candidate will be a new graduate to someone with 5 years of experience with strong recommendations and the ability to perform all aspects of adult cardiac surgery and general thoracic surgery. Call coverage will be 1:2 on weekdays and one weekend per month. UAB main campus cardiothoracic surgeons assist the community practice with call coverage.
