Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director, UTHP Practice Plan
The Long School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (dba UT Health San Antonio) seeks an accomplished and visionary leader as its next Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs and Executive Director of the UT Health Physicians (UTHP) Practice Plan. This position reports to the Dean of the LSOM and is responsible for providing leadership and management of the school’s clinical activities. The Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs (VDCA) collaborates with the chairs of clinical departments and center directors to design and develop efficient, cost-effective models of high-quality care delivery in an integrated healthcare system that is patient-centric and fiscally sound. The VDCA is actively involved in the development of department budgets, planning of clinical programs, and establishing faculty projections to ensure departmental growth plans align with that of the school and health science center.
Must have or be able to easily obtain an unrestricted Texas medical license as well as DEA and Texas DPS certificates. Must be certified by his or her respective professional board with practice experience. Must be qualified for faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at the rank of Professor. The ideal candidate will have national recognition in clinical affairs as a physician leader. Must have experience in operational and financial management of clinical practices, and leadership in an academic health center and group practice environment. Preferred, though not required, to have additional training or advanced degree in management or administration. Experience in medical staff functions is essential as is a working knowledge of hospital administration, quality improvement, population health, and strategic planning. Must have the leadership as well as organizational and interpersonal skills needed to effectively operate in the complex environment of an academic health center.
