This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Provides leadership and oversight, including direct patient care to veterans receiving radiation oncology services. Incumbent would be involved in clinical supervision of radiation therapists, medical physicist, dosimetrist, and nursing staff and Pas, as well as, administrative Radiation Oncology staff. The physician will be responsible for providing the management and oversight for administrative activities, including radiation safety issues, equipment selection, and physician / patient scheduling.

The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff and serves as a key clinical resource for the Chief of Staff and the Medical Center Director.

The incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of all aspects of Therapeutic Radiation Oncology and the associated radiation safety factors included therein. The incumbent must be trained in radiation safety and radiation physics. Incumbent must have knowledge of standards and performance factors in Radiation Oncology, and will need to have requisite knowledge all current treatment modalities

The responsibilities include hands on clinical work, oversight, and administration of all aspects of the service, including research, and guidance and training for residents and other trainees.

Additionally, the incumbent is directly accountable to the Chief of Staff for administrative activities, clinical program activities, and overall compliance to VA, VHA, and VISN wide policies and procedures related to this service. This includes, but is not limited to, the following along with other duties as assigned:

  • Provides direct clinical and operational support for the Department of Radiation Oncology.
  • Will work with facility leadership in developing a strategic plan for the department.
  • Will be responsible for the financial and operating metrics.
  • Provides operational leadership for all quality services.
  • Provides clinical leadership and expertise within the quality clinical team.
  • Proactively identifies opportunities to improve the patient and family experience of care and the efficiency and effectiveness of resource use.
  • Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory, and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Oversees patient care management.
  • Participates and provides clinical leadership in the development and review of care quality and clinical protocols on the department QA program group.
  • Ensures site physician coverage during operation hours.
  • Develops policies for guidelines for appropriate radiation oncology procedures.
  • Provides leadership of regular team meetings for the operational and administrative functions of the quality program.
  • Oversees implementation of clinical protocols, assist with IRB approvals, utilization review, case management, quality assurance.
  • Ensures compliance with state and federal regulatory standards.
  • Participates in quality assurance and peer review programs, including compliance with and implementation of any resulting recommendations.
  • Participates on relevant Health System and Medical Staff committees, and personally attends local Medical Board meetings.
  • Works to ensure that annual operating and departmental fund budgets meet annual targets.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases

Work Schedule: M-F 8-430 and other hours as dictated by the clinical needs of the service or medical center. Chiefs are expected to be available outside of their duty hours for emergencies.

  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
