Job Requirement

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Augusta University is seeking applications for Director of Pediatric General Anesthesia Services.  Applicants must have an MD or equivalent degree, be ABA certified or board eligible, and hold or be eligible for a valid Georgia medical license.  Candidate currently holding the rank of associate professor or professor preferred.  As the Department has an enduring commitment to teaching, potential candidates must have a strong interest in combining clinical practice with resident and fellow education and research.  The Director should possess an in-depth knowledge of pediatric anesthesiology including the care of high-risk patients. 

Job Description

This position will provide direct patient care management in an academic, hospital-based, and transdisciplinary anesthesiology program with the responsibility of ensuring ongoing development, growth and oversight/authority of the Pediatric General Anesthesia Program.  Opportunities for the position include promoting high standards of practice through the development of general pediatric anesthesia policies, protocols and practice guidelines; participating in rigorous performance improvement monitoring; resident and staff education and pediatric anesthesia research. 

The pediatric anesthesia care team has experienced significant growth in recent years and currently consists of 8 board-certified anesthesiologists with subspecialty training in pediatric anesthesia (5 general and 3 cardiothoracic pediatric anesthesiologists), 7 CRNAs, 1 pediatric anesthesia fellow and up to 5 anesthesia residents. The pediatric anesthesia division provides state-of-the-art anesthesia and perioperative care to approximately 6500 surgical patients annually at the Children’s Hospital of Georgia, the only facility in the region dedicated exclusively to the surgical care of children.
