Maine Medical Partners-Portland is seeking full-time Obstetrician Gynecologists to join our Division of Generalist Obstetrics and Gynecology as nocturnists at Maine Medical Center. Flexible scheduling and competitive salary and benefits offered. 

Maine Medical Partners-Portland will be launching a nocturnist coverage program with 365 night in-house inpatient attending coverage program for both obstetrics and gynecology with resident supervision at Maine Medical Center.  The nocturnists will join our growing group of providers in general obstetrics and gynecology, currently composed of 9 generalists and 4 advanced care providers, who provide inpatient care at Maine Medical Center as well as care at two outpatient locations in Portland, Maine and support an Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency program founded in 1976 with 4 residents per year.  Current generalist division members include physicians with focused practice designations in family planning, pediatric and adolescent gynecology and addiction medicine. 

This position requires providing clinical care in both obstetrics and gynecology, in the inpatient setting.  The physician will be joining a group of experienced physicians who provide laborist daytime coverage, supervision and provision of care in the residency outpatient clinic, care for their own panel of patients, as well as call and back-up call to support the nocturnist program. 

Candidates will have completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology and be board certified, with at least two years of experience providing full scope OB/GYN care.  Well-qualified candidates will have excellent clinical and communication skills, and enjoy clinical care as well as teaching learners of all levels (UME/GME).  Prior experience with graduate and undergraduate education is highly desired. 

General Summary

The nocturnist will provide full scope coverage inpatient coverage in both obstetrics and gynecology.  This includes nighttime hospitalist coverage of labor and delivery at a Level IV maternal care center, in-house benign gynecology and ED coverage at a Level I Trauma Center.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Provides full scope in patient obstetrical care for all patients covered by the MMC/MMP obstetrical service
  • Provides full scope inpatient benign gynecologic care for MMC/MMP established patients and patients presenting to emergency department at a Level I Trauma center for urgent care
  • Works closely with other MMP OB GYN generalist partners to provide team-based high quality clinical care
  • A full-time position will be twelve 14-hour in-house shifts per month
  • Works collaboratively and in a consultative role with advanced practice providers in the inpatient setting
  • Responsible for teaching of graduate and undergraduate learners
  • Participate in departmental educational activities, as well as quality initiatives

Maine Medical Center has 700 licensed beds and is the state’s leading tertiary care hospital and Level One Trauma Center, with a full complement of residencies and fellowships and an integral part of Tufts University Medical School.  MMC is the only Level IV maternal center and Level IV NICU in the state of Maine performing over 3,000 deliveries annually.  TMMC offers 24/7 in-house anesthesia, as well as NICU coverage.  The candidate would have an academic appointment at Tufts University School of Medicine, and the position involves teaching and mentoring residents and medical students from the Maine Medical Center-Tufts University School of Medicine Medical School Program.
