Ochsner LSU Health Shreveport & LSU Health Sciences Center - Shreveport welcomes your application for the Chair, Department of Neurology in Shreveport, Louisiana. The Chair, an innovative and dynamic member of the LSU Health Shreveport leadership team, reports directly to the Dean of the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport, David F. Lewis, MD, MBA. The selected candidate will also interact with the leadership of the Ochsner Health System who manages our primary teaching hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe in partnership with LSU.

The Chair exemplifies exceptional leadership, continues the pursuit of clinical and academic excellence and fosters interdisciplinary management of the department s nine areas of specialty, including:

  • Child Neurology
  • Clinical Neurophysiology
  • EEG/Epilepsy
  • Headache
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Neuromuscular Disease
  • Parkinson s Disease
  • Sleep Disorders Center
  • Stroke

The goal of the Department of Neurology is to work with our patients' primary care providers to diagnose and treat neurological problems with the most advanced, state of the art care available. We offer Eteplirsen for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, Nusinersen for Spinal Muscular Atrophy, ACTH Therapy for Infantile Spasms, Dysport injections for Spasticity and Intrathecal Baclofen Pump. Neurodiagnostic services include:

  1. Intracranial EEG monitoring
  2. Pediatric Epilepsy Surgery
  3. Routine and video EEG
  4. Visual Evoked Potentials
  5. Neuroimaging studies including CT Scans, MRIs, MR Spectroscopy, PET scans and ictal SPECT
  6. Pediatric Sleep Studies

LSUHSC-S continues to expand our faculty, as we assume increasing responsibility in healthcare outreach with efforts to be increasingly available to both underserved as well as those with more ready access to healthcare. We have a very effective and collegial collaboration with Neurosurgery, Neuroradiology, Pediatrics and Psychiatry as well as other services within our medical center.

The successful candidate must have proven experience as a leader who can inspire faculty and staff to work together to develop future leaders in the specialty. It is essential that the candidate possess strong management skills with an ability to grow revenues and meet budgets. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a broad range of constituents, both internally and externally are vital. In addition, the department chair will oversee, coordinate, and encourage research within the department.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have an MD
  • A distinguished record in Neurology
  • Outstanding clinical skills
  • Candidates must have a firm commitment to the education of residents and medical students
  • Qualify for the rank of Professor of Neurology.
  • Eligibility for a Louisiana Medical License is required
