Executive Director

Worcester, MA: Meyers Health Care Institute (MHCI) seeks a dynamic leader and accomplished academician to serve as its next Executive Director and Chief, Division of Healthcare Delivery Science (HCDS) at the UMass Chan Medical School (UMCMS). This is an outstanding leadership position for an academic leader with a record of major research, teaching and leadership accomplishments to drive research efforts and contribute to improving the health of patients across the globe.

Established in 1996, MHCI is a joint endeavor of UMCMS, Reliant Medical Group, and Fallon Health. The Institute has a mission to conduct innovative, population-based research to promote evidence-based healthcare across the lifespan and disseminate that research through education and policy initiatives. The Institute functions at the intersection of healthcare delivery, implementation science, and health services research, investigating novel ways to improve the quality, safety, and efficiency of healthcare through the support of these three leading healthcare organizations.

Over its 25-year history, the Institute has earned nearly $100 million in extramural research funding. Research teams at the MHCI participate in national multi-site consortia and networks including several NIH-funded collaborations. As a Division within the Department of Medicine at UMass, the #7 NIH-funded Department of Medicine in the country; the Institute is poised for continued success. 

The Executive Director will be responsible for leading and overseeing the Institute’s activities, reporting to a Board of Directors representing the three entities. The Executive Director will be responsible for shaping and expanding the Institute’s research vision, and leading the Institute’s faculty and staff in identifying high value, innovative research opportunities consistent with its mission. In addition to leading core research faculty, the Executive Director will expand the community of Institute-affiliated faculty across departments and disciplines at the UMCMS, with a special focus on research in health care delivery science. The position of Executive Director of MHCI will closely align with the newly established Division of HCDS at UMCMS, which the Executive Director will also lead.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding physician academician with demonstrated ability to set a vision and effectively recruit, inspire, manage, and mentor. MHCI seeks candidates with prior administrative and leadership experience gained within an academic division of Medicine with strong interpersonal and communication skills that complement a passion for excellence.
