WittKieffer and Carle Health (Carle) have partnered in the national search for a physician executive to lead the Dr. Eugene Greenberg Digestive Health Institute that includes over thirty-four (34) Gastroenterologist's, Colorectal Surgeons and Advanced Practice Providers.  Carle Digestive Health Institute (CDHI) is one of six (6) Institute's at Carle conducting research, clinical trials and training the next generation of physicians at the Carle Illinois College of Medicine, the world's first engineering-based medical school.

Based in Urbana-Champaign, IL, home to the University of Illinois with twenty-nine Pulitzer Prizes, Carle is vertically integrated with more than 11,000 employees in its five hospitals, a multi-specialty physician group with more than 1,000 doctors and advance practice providers, health plans and associated healthcare businesses including the Carle Illinois College of Medicine.  Carle Foundation Hospital with 453 beds ranks as one of America’s 50 Best Hospitals by Healthgrades and for more than 10 years has held Magnet® designation, the nation’s highest honor for nursing care. Carle is also proud to be named a Great Place to Work®.

The CDHI Medical Director will provide overall physician executive leadership for digestive health services at Carle Health System, inclusive of gastroenterology and colon rectal surgery.  In partnership with an administrative dyad, the Vice President, Specialty Institutes, Rehabilitation and Therapy Services, the CDHI Medical Director is responsible for the direction and oversight of all medical operations and has clinical and operational accountability for CDHI’s performance and quality metrics. The CDHI Medical Director understands and practices clinical medicine, articulates the vision of CDHI as a regional leader in digestive health, and leads others in shared improvement and growth initiatives.

Candidates should have ten or more years of clinical practice in gastroenterology, with five years of progressive physician leadership experience required.  Board Certification in gastroenterology is required and an added advanced degree is also highly desired.  The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills and leadership experience gained ideally in a multi-site health care system.  The CDHI Medical Director has a unique opportunity to lead the delivery of world-class clinical, educational, research, and innovative programs and services.
