The Department of Surgery, University of California, San Francisco, is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time academic surgeon with an exemplary record of patient care and expertise in Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care. Candidates must be board certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care.

Candidates should have leadership, clinical, and administrative experience, with a focus on critical care and will serve as Director of Acute Care Surgery at UCSF and Co-Director of the Surgical Critical Care Program at UCSF. The ideal candidate will possess outstanding clinical and teaching skills, have the ability to foster research, and share a commitment to collaboration, service, excellence and diversity. Established academic critical care physicians and applicants who are interested in health service research are encouraged to apply.

As Director of Acute Care Surgery (ACS), responsibilities will include quality assessment, implementation, coordination, and standardization of system-wide patient care. The Director will be the lead of the Emergency General Surgery services at UCSF, including Moffit Long, Mission Bay and Mount Zion hospitals, and will allocate and assign the various ACS activities and operations at these facilities including on-call services, and play a key leadership role in physician relationships, service excellence commitments and fiscal management. The Director will integrate with the organization's operations, participate in performance improvement activities and ensure professional and regulatory compliance is achieved.

As Co-Director of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) responsibilities will include leading a multidisciplinary group of critical care physicians, providers and trainees who work in the SICU, collaborating with medical center leadership and nurse management, leading and participating in continuous improvement projects, collaborating with campus-wide leadership on shared goals of optimizing ICU care delivery to surgical patients, and directing multidisciplinary critical care education. Candidates will be expected to take emergency general surgery call and cover critical care shifts at the Parnassus and Mission Bay campuses of UCSF. The position will be primarily located at UCSF and may have additional opportunity for clinical practice at other UCSF Affiliate Hospitals, including Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center.

Candidates must have recognized skills in the education of surgery residents and medical students and will be expected to be active participants in the Department's residency training and educational programs.
