Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (RWJMS) New Brunswick seeks a distinguished, dynamic and collaborative leader with a strong clinical and academic foundation to serve as its next Division Chief, Pulmonary/Critical Care. As the leader of the Division, the Chief will be responsible for all missions, and especially focused on the growth and advancement of research, faculty recruitment and development, scholarly activity, and teaching excellence. The Division strives to be a nationally recognized program, advancing clinical, educational, research and scholarly activities with the goal of being a top tier Division in all areas. This is an outstanding opportunity to live and work in a very desirable and a highly advanced healthcare market, with the clinical and operational support and expertise of one of the nation's leading health systems.

Reporting to Fredric Wondisford, MD, Chair of the Department of Medicine, the incoming Chief must be passionate about building collaborative research programs, mentoring outstanding junior faculty, and advancing pulmonary/critical care medicine on the national/international stage. The new Chief will be intimately involved in developing a vision and executing a strategic plan for integrated pulmonary/critical care services across the RWJBarnabas/Rutgers Health System. The Division will be supported with the funds necessary to meet a high standard of excellence in clinical care, research and education. Goals for the division include strengthening and enhancing research and collaborations, growing and expanding services, and developing the Division into a nationally recognized program with expanded services, fellowships, faculty, awards and grants necessary to be a leader in the field.

The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader with demonstrated ability to create a shared vision, inspire, manage and mentor, and who has a passion for providing outstanding care, a desire to improve systems and processes to maximize efficiency, and the leadership qualities to engage faculty, set expectations and develop careers. In addition, the successful candidate will have an actively funded research program in basic, translational, clinical or health services research, strong academic credentials from institutions of high repute, and a distinguished record of accomplishments across all missions. The Chief will be a business minded leader who demonstrates the ability to work well with multiple partners and stakeholders, and embodies the ambitious and strategic mindset needed to build the Division and develop it as the thought leader for pulmonary and critical care services across the system.

Candidates must hold the degree of MD or MD/PhD, be Board certified in Pulmonary Medicine and possess qualifications for appointment to Associate Professor or Professor at Rutgers University. The successful candidate may also be appointed within a Research Institute of RBHS or jointly appointed in a Basic Science Department.
