Description

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), commensurate with experience and qualifications in the Clinical Research Division of the Fred Hutch and the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine at the UW. This position would have an annual service period of 12 months [July 1-June 30]. The primary appointment will be in the Clinical Research Division of Fred Hutch.

The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in clinical research in palliative and end of life care. The successful candidate will have clinical responsibilities on the outpatient palliative care service. Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will include assisting the Medical Director for Palliative Care in the education and oversight of palliative care and medical oncology fellows, as well as the delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to researchers, oncology clinicians and the general medical community. All subspecialities within hospice and palliative care will be considered and a specific interest and experience in the field of oncology is highly desirable.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a record of and primary interest in supportive and palliative care as well as an active clinical research interest, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, grants and/or clinical trial experience. The ideal candidate will also have one or more of the following characteristics or attributes:

  1. Prior experience (or expertise) working with hematologic malignancy, transplant or immunotherapy patients
  2. Vital Talk faculty status (i.e. have completed the train the trainer course)
  3. Willingness to work at Seattle Cancer Care Alliance’s South Lake Union site and community or acquisition sites
  4. Willingness to conduct weekend or evening calls as well as inpatient PC consultations, if deemed necessary

Applicants must have an MD/DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification (or be board eligible for current palliative care fellows) in Hospice and Palliative Medicine. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
