Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
* Reviews/performs/provides duties and responsibilities of a radiologist (50 percent of time to be devoted to clinical duties and 50 percent to administration.)
* Demonstrates leadership in interpreting and supporting the VISN mission, vision and values, while operating in accordance with Veterans Health Administration (VHA) policies, facility and VISN policies, and standards of federal professional and accrediting agencies external to VHA.
* Adheres to the Medical Staff Bylaws and Rules and Regulations as set forth by the medical staff.
* Serves as Radiation Safety Officer.
* Provides direction and support to the Imaging staff regarding equipment technology, policies and procedures employed by the Medical Center, ensures that all requirements of NRC (Nuclear Regulatory Commission) and Joint Commission are met.
* Is responsible for the financial management of the Imaging Service.
* Collaborates with the Imaging Business Manager and Chief of Staff to develop and execute a strategic plan and annual budget for the Imaging Service.
* Responsible for action in matters such as promotions, selections, on the job training, awards, EEO complaints, labor relations, disciplinary actions, training, and career development.
* Responsible for the development of mechanisms to assure staff competency and continuing education compliance.
* Establishes employee performance plans that align with Agency and Departmental goals and objectives, and is responsible for evaluating and communicating employee performance.
* Develops a team that is technically competent and understands the interrelationship of the Imaging Service with other facility Service Lines and departments to achieve the mission of the Medical Center and VISN
* Demonstrates knowledge of the component parts of customer service.
* Treats all customers, internal and external, with courtesy and dignity.
* Empowers staff to resolve problems independently at the lowest level.
* Identifies systems barriers to improve customer service.
* Ensures that continuing education is maintained for the Imaging Service staff.
* Builds an environment where research is valued.
* Participates in development of graduate education opportunities within the SL.
* Demonstrates leadership by providing support and resources to staff to enable them to carry out the VISN and VHA missions.
* Actively involves Imaging staff in identifying areas for improvement, and for membership on Task Groups, process and organizational improvement teams.
* Other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule:8:00AM - 4:30PM Monday - Friday primarily. Subject to take call or occasional night/weekend shifts as needed for patient care.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.

Basic Requirements:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
* Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
* Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR
[(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR
(3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences.
Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs.
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements:Position requires moderate lifting, pushing and pulling:
reaching above the shoulders; walking and standing; kneeling and repeated bending.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are:
1. Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted, or
2. Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association for the year in which the degree was granted.
