Nationwide Children’s Hospital has launched a national recruitment for an effective physician leader to serve as the Chief for the new Division of Urgent Care. Nationwide Children’s Urgent Care services has experienced significant growth over the past 10 years, mirroring the institution’s comprehensive growth trajectory. Today, Nationwide Children’s offers the community high-quality pediatric care at 7 Urgent Care sites staffed by 31 Urgent Care physicians and highly skilled nurse practitioners, nurses, and suture technicians. With the commitment of senior leadership, Urgent Care will now serve as the 25th Division within the Department of Pediatrics. The Division Chief will have overall accountability for clinical, operational, educational, advocacy, and scholarly activities for the Division of Urgent Care at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. The Division Chief will recruit, nurture, and mentor an outstanding and diverse divisional faculty and foster a culture committed to education and quality improvement. The Division Chief will provide management and leadership to continuously strive for and achieve excellence in the Division’s delivery of efficient, accessible, high-value, comprehensive, safe, evidence-based patient care for children and families who seek care in the Urgent Care sites. The Division Chief will support research partnerships and promote a culture of inquiry related to improving outcomes. Vital to the success of this leader will be embracing the hospital’s “One Team” values of collaborative teamwork and commitment to health equity.

Nationwide Children’s is a full-service pediatric teaching hospital and health system with 549 licensed beds, a Level I Pediatric Trauma Center/Pediatric Emergency Department at the main campus, and the nation’s third busiest pediatric emergency department. Nationwide Children’s also has a Pediatric Emergency Department in Lewis Center, Ohio, and recently opened a state-of-the-art and first of its kind $158M free-standing Behavioral Health Pavilion. Additionally, Nationwide Children’s is one of the largest hospital-owned primary care networks in any children’s hospital and has achieved Level 3 standards, the highest level of achievement issued by NCQA as a Patient-Centered Medical Home. The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital is one of the Top 10 NIH-funded free-standing pediatric research facilities in the United States.   

The successful candidate will have a distinguished clinical track record and strong evidence of leadership experience in managing and advancing clinical operations in urgent care clinics or similar clinical sites. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with other professionals to advance clinical and educational programs and mentor and align providers are required. Current Board certification in Pediatrics and the ability to obtain an active Ohio license is required.
