The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan is seeking a board certified or board eligible MD to join the department as a full-time laborist/obstetric hospitalist. The position will be at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor on the clinical track pending candidate qualifications.  Candidates will be expected to devote their professional effort to conduct patient care dedicated to the in-patient obstetric care including but not limited to: care for laboring patients, vaginal deliveries, cesarean deliveries, responsiveness to obstetric emergencies, collaboration with other obstetric providers including midwives and family medicine providers, and postpartum care.  Additional responsibilities include teaching medical students and resident physicians. Participation in clinical quality improvement and patient safety efforts and initiatives on the labor and delivery unit is encouraged.  A mixture of day, night, or 24-hour shifts can be scheduled and there are no clinic or outpatient responsibilities required. 

The University of Michigan Birth Center does approximately 5000 deliveries annually and works in a collaborative team model including providers from maternal fetal medicine, ob-gyn specialists, family medicine providers, certified nurse midwives, fellows, residents, and medical students. Obstetric care and NICU care is within the same building one floor away providing efficient, safe, collaborative care for any maternal or neonatal need.
