The Nassau County Office of Mental Health, Chemical Dependency and Developmental Disabilities Services is seeking applicants for the position of Medical Director, Methadone Maintenance Services, to oversee the Opioid Treatment Program.     


GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Directs departmental medical activities for substance abuse treatment and research at the Methadone Maintenance Clinic; performs related duties as required.

COMPLEXITY OF DUTIES
Under general supervision, the duties require the use of judgment in supervising and performing professional medical services.

TYPICAL DUTIES

  1. *Supervises medical personnel at the Methadone Maintenance Clinic relevant to treatment methods, dispensing of medication, and other activities for substance abusing clients.
  2. *Coordinates and supervises activities of State and County agencies participating in substance abuse treatment programs.
  3. Acts as a consultant to other agencies and to the public regarding substance abuse medical issues.
  4. Prepares reports of medical examinations and maintains pertinent records.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  1. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of medicine.
  2. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of treatment of drug abusers.
  3. Ability to exercise sound professional judgment.
  4. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, subordinates, and associates.
  5. Ability to express oneself effectively, both orally and in writing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Training and Experience
Continuing possession of a license to practice medicine in New York State
and One year of experience as a physician in a methadone maintenance clinic.

All medical directors, whether full-time or part-time, other than medical directors in place as of the effective date of this regulation, must hold a board certification in addiction medicine from a certifying entity appropriate to their primary or specialty board certification. 

Physicians may be hired as probationary medical directors if not so certified but must obtain certification within four (4) years of being hired.  In addition, the medical director must have a federal DATA 2000 waiver (buprenorphine-certified), or if hired after the effective date of this regulation, must obtain such waiver within six (6) months of employment.
