Associate Medical Director for the Adult Emergency Department
The Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health is recruiting an Associate Medical Director for the Adult Emergency Department. This academic position will be responsible for assisting in the operations and leadership of a 57-bed Adult Emergency Department at the only Level-1 trauma for the city and County of Denver CO. This ED also serves as the main clinical site of a four-year emergency medicine residency, the only EM training program in Colorado. Specific operational responsibilities include working with nursing leadership to co-lead ED patient experience initiatives and support other process improvement initiatives. Clinical responsibilities include work in the Adult and Pediatric Emergency Departments, as well as periodic clinical oversight of the Clinical Decision Unit (CDU).
The emergency department (ED) at Denver Health includes a 57-bed adult ED with an additional 19-bed pediatric ED and urgent care, and an adjacent 23-bed clinical decision unit. With a combined annual census of more than 100,000 patients, the ED at Denver Health is the second busiest in Colorado and home to the Ernest E. Moore Shock Trauma Center at Denver Health, the primary trauma referral center for the Rocky Mountain Region. Additionally, the acuity managed by the adult ED is high, with a 25% admission rate. Staffing in the adult and pediatric EDs is provided by board-certified emergency physicians, PGY 1- 4 residents, emergency medicine subspecialty fellows, and advanced practice providers. Strong and extremely collaborative relationships exist among physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, and consultative services.

Faculty hold appointments in the School of Medicine. ultimately report to the Director of Service for the Department of Emergency Medicine at Denver Health, and the ideal candidate will have demonstrated clinical and non-clinical leadership achievement in a busy high-performing department. The candidate should be committed to serving our patient population and have a passion for innovation and scholarship. Operational/administrative fellowship and an academic track record are preferred but not necessary to apply. Board eligibility or certification in emergency medicine is required.
