Job Summary
The Division of General Medicine is the largest division within the University of Michigan Department of Internal Medicine, and one of the top academic general medicine divisions in the country. The division is home to over 145 faculty, including 30 outstanding research-focused faculty, both MDs and PhDs, who have a robust portfolio of extramurally funded research spanning important topics in health services research and health policy.
The Vice Chief for Research and Innovation will develop and lead research strategy for the division of general medicine. Working in partnership with the Division Chief and Division Administrator, the Vice Chief will oversee the division’s research strategic, organizational, administrative, recruitment, evaluation and mentorship activities. An Endowed Professorship is available to outstanding candidates.
Qualifications
Interested applicants must possess an MD, MD/MPH (or other Masters Degree) or MD/PhD with active board certification in Internal Medicine. Qualified candidates will be experienced researchers eligible for faculty appointment at UM Medical School at the Associate Professor level or above in the tenure track, with a strong track record of extramurally funded research, publication, and mentorship. This Vice Chief of Research will hold a faculty position at 1.0 FTE at the time of appointment, with 25% effort dedicated to the Vice Chief role, with the expectation of 20% clinical activity at UM or VA with the remaining 55% dedicated to funded scholarly research activity.
