Job Summary

The Physician applies advanced professional physician concepts to perform highly difficult general medical work. The Physician provides comprehensive primary care services to UCSF students including women’s health services, long-acting reversible contraceptives including the Intrauterine devices (IUD) placement and Nexplanon, management of sports injuries, chronic care management, basic dermatology, minor surgical procedures, counseling related to Latent TB Infection (LTBI) and other possible communicable disease exposures related to a healthcare setting, and assists students with mental health concerns.  

Required Qualifications

  • Must be Board certified, current to be verified by American Board of Medical Specialties and be in possession of the legal requirements for the practice of medicine in California to be verified by California Medical Board
  • California Medical license
  • Must successfully complete the Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS) credentialing process
  • Knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of advanced physician duties including experience in treating common acute and chronic illnesses and injuries
  • Advanced clinical skills with understanding of the medical and psycho-social needs of patients to provide appropriate counseling, consultation and referral
  • Must have effective diagnostic and decision-making skills in more difficult cases
  • Must be able to diagnose patient condition and make associated treatment recommendations
  • Must be computer literate. Requires ability to use electronic/medical records systems, skill in using PC, and knowledge of software such as Outlook
  • Skill in oral and written communication with both patients and clinical staff members to accurately convey information. Must be able to work in a collaborative manner
  • Ability to function with a high degree of autonomy
  • Must be able to influence others
  • Some flexibility in work schedule

Note: Physical/health screening required - TB and immunizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • DEA License
  • CPR
  • Skill in organizing and prioritizing work when faced with competing deadlines, and interruptions
  • Knowledge of disease, prevention and health promotion needs of late adolescents and adults
  • Experience and proficient with primary care procedures (destruction skin lesions, I&D abscess, joint fluid aspiration, etc.)

License/Certification
