Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (WUSM) seeks a dynamic and impactful executive leader with outstanding personal research accomplishments and demonstrated administrative ability to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Psychiatry.
Reporting directly to David H. Perlmutter, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine, the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry will provide leadership and administrative oversight of the department’s research initiatives, programs and resources. The Chair will lead and develop a sizeable and diverse Department. The Chair is expected to advance the research, clinical and education missions within the Department, consistent with the excellence in those areas achieved throughout the School of Medicine and leveraging partnerships and resources elsewhere in the School, the University and the region. The Chair will promote the importance of ground-breaking research, grants, publications, and other scholarly activities, while continuing to elevate the national and international reputation of this program. The Chair will also seek to expand the clinical impact of the department in partnership with the Dean. Furthermore, the Chair will play an important external role, representing the department within the School of Medicine and the University broadly.
The School of Medicine, one of seven schools of Washington University in St. Louis, is currently ranked among the top twelve medical schools in the country by U.S. News & World Report, and ranks among the top five medical schools with regard to NIH funding according to NIH RePORT. The Department of Psychiatry is ranked #8 in NIH funding by the Blue Ridge Institute for Medical Research. WUSM is a leader in improving human health throughout the world in patient care, research and education, with more than ten departments and programs in medicine that are ranked in the top 10 nationally.
The new Chair of the Department of Psychiatry will be a nationally recognized physician-scientist with a history of success in leadership roles in an academic medical center and a distinguished career as a scholar, educator and clinician.
