The National Institutes of Health (NIH) invites candidates with strong clinical, operational, Leadership, and research credentials to apply for the position of Physician (Neuroradiology), GP-0602-15, with the Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department (RADIS) at the NIH Clinical Center, Bethesda, MD. The NIH Clinical Center is the largest hospital in the world dedicated to translational clinical research. The hospital maintains a 200-bed capacity that supports the intramural research programs of Institutes and Centers across the NIH. The hospital supports an extensive range of research participants who are patients with long-standing relationships with their Institute’s care team.

Currently, there are about 1,600 clinical research studies in progress at the NIH Clinical Center. About half are studies of the natural history of diseases, especially rare diseases, which often are not studied anywhere else. Most other studies are clinical trials, which often are the first tests of new drugs and therapies in patients. The clinical trials at the NIH Clinical Center are
predominantly Phase I and Phase II, often first-in-human to test safety and efficacy.

The NIH Clinical Center, Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department provides diagnostic radiological examinations and support for the translational clinical research programs at the National Institutes of Health, offering remarkable opportunities for scientific collaboration. The Radiology and Imaging Sciences Department’s neuroradiologists provide expert interpretation of neuroimaging within RADIS and provide direction and expertise on optimum performance of neuroimaging procedures with the following modalities including Radiography, Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine. The Physician (Neuroradiology) would manage resources dedicated to supporting advanced neuroimaging for clinical care and clinical and translational research in RADIS and /or the Nuclear Magnetic Resonance ( NMR) Center.

The Clinical Center is the epicenter of intramural research and collaboration at the NIH. The individual selected for this position will have an opportunity to engage in scholarly activities and develop technical innovation in neuroimaging that lead to optimal clinical outcomes, and that ensure clinical research goals are obtained while implementing the principles of high  reliability in healthcare at the CC. The incumbent will have opportunities to integrate clinical and scientific goals and objectives into the practice of clinical and translational research. We seek an individual who possesses exceptional analytic skills and a high level of expertise in leading and advising a diverse research workforce. The ability to partner and provide sound guidance at all levels within a complex clinical research setting is key in the performance of duties associated with this position.

Candidates must be neuroimaging experts with substantive technical and clinical practice skill sets appropriate to a clinical research setting. They should have demonstrated experience in a primarily clinical but also academic setting. The candidate should possess an M.D., D.D.S., or D.O. (or equivalent) degree. Board certification in diagnostic radiology from the ABR and training in an ACGME-accredited neuroradiology fellowship is preferred. A track record of excellence in performing imaging/neuroimaging research for at least ten years, establishing strong research collaborations, or leading an independent imaging research program is highly desirable.  Salary is commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
