The Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University is seeking an outstanding faculty member at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor of Integrated Medical Science to serve as an Academic Geriatrician.
Our mission is to produce graduates who are prepared and motivated to play a central role in the achievement of three critical state goals: (1) providing the highest quality health care to Florida's citizens; (2) assuring that the state has the requisite number of medical faculty required to support Florida's medical schools and assure continued access to medical education opportunities in Florida; and (3) producing physician-scientists with the knowledge and skills required to transform healthcare and biomedical research in the state. Faculty will collaborate in the development of the four-year curriculum.
This position involves teaching, clinical care, scholarship, innovation, and service in Geriatric Medicine. It is a dynamic leadership position responsible for the oversight of the Geriatrics Curriculum Thread for all four years of medical school and directing the M3 Geriatrics and Palliative Care Clerkship. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Refining and evaluating a coordinated series of high-quality educational offerings on geriatrics and gerontology throughout the 4-year medical student curriculum, and integrating them where possible with other curriculum threads and with the GME curriculum in Geriatrics and Palliative Care.
- Participating in teaching activities in the Internal Medicine Residents on their required rotation, and other trainees as it relates to geriatrics and palliative care.
- Ensuring compliance with all LCME and ACGME accreditation standards, across all affiliated teaching sites, including didactic sessions, trainee assessments and faculty development, and program evaluation.
- Providing outpatient geriatric consultations at the FAU Medicine practice
- Participating in scholarly activities, community engagement, and state and national committees as opportunities arise.
Minimum Qualification:
M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant professor or higher required.
Board certification in Internal or Family Medicine, and in Geriatric Medicine.
Substantial teaching experience with medical students and/or residents, and demonstrated teaching excellence. Experience as a clerkship or residency rotation director is preferred, as is experience in clinical teaching program development and administration.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with a variety of students, residents, fellows, faculty, and employees from widely diverse backgrounds.
