Director of Psychiatry Services - Venice Family Clinic

Responsibilities

Venice Family Clinic (VFC) is a private, non-profit corporation, providing high quality comprehensive primary health care, dental, behavioral health (mental health, substance use, domestic violence),  and child development services to underserved individuals on the Westside of Los Angeles. VFC is a federally funded Community Health Center and a Federally Qualified Health Center. With more than 12 locations and a robust homeless health care program that includes street-outreach teams, we serve over 28,000 uninsured, low-income and patients experiencing homelessness in over 130,000 patient visits. The Behavioral Health department is totally integrated with the medical team and includes addiction and domestic violence services as well as short-term outpatient therapy and crisis counseling. The clinic is committed to a harm reduction approach in its substance use programs. 

Under the leadership of the CMO, the Director of Psychiatry Services is an integral part of the clinic staff, providing leadership and expertise in behavioral and mental health illnesses. Integration of behavioral health in the primary care setting is a model Venice Family Clinic has adopted for many years; offering counseling, individual and group therapy, as well as psychiatry to manage mild to moderate mental illnesses. The psychiatrist works cooperatively with all Clinic departments including staff clinicians, SUMMIT staff (our harm reduction substance use program) and Behavioral Health staff. The psychiatrist has the opportunity to work with and supervises psychiatry residents. The position requires flexibility work location and in days and hours for clinical care, as some evening are included in the weekly schedule.  Spanish language competency is preferred

Qualifications

• Possession of active California Medical License 
• Board Certified physician in psychiatry 
• Knowledge of medical problems of medically underserved populations, and persons experiencing homelessness --
• Ability to speak Spanish such that an interpreter is not routinely needed during medical visits - Preferred.
• Skill in providing general adult and psychiatric medical care in a high-volume clinic setting 
• Able to manage a wide range of psychiatric illnesses especially depression, PTSD and anxiety 
• Ability to teach and supervise residents 
• Ability to work as a team with multi-disciplinary staff, mental health providers, other staff and volunteer physicians, and mid-level practitioners 
• Willingness to learn and fully utilize our Electronic Health Record to meet meaningful use requirements 
• Meet productivity goals as determined by the Chief Medical Officer
