Carilion Clinic and Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) seek a dynamic, collaborative, and experienced emergency medicine leader with a strong clinical, operational, and academic foundation to serve as the next Chair, Department of Emergency Medicine. During the past decade, the Department has grown into a strong clinical and academic oriented emergency medicine enterprise and is poised to continue to advance the program’s success.

Carilion Clinic is one of Virginia's leading not–for–profit health care organizations. Through the integrated "clinic model," the System offers a patient centered and physician led comprehensive network of hospitals, physician practices, and other continuum of care services. The Carilion care teams provide quality care close to home for nearly one million Virginians. Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, a 703-bed, level one trauma center serves as the academic flagship for the system supported by five surrounding community hospitals with over 180,000 emergency medicine visits across the enterprise annually.

With an enduring commitment to the health of the region, Carilion Clinic seeks to improve care through medical education and research in partnership with the VTCSOM and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC. The Department focuses its research efforts in innovative clinical outcomes research, opioid addiction and traumatic brain injury scholarly work.

The Department of Emergency Medicine consists of 70 physicians, 35 Advanced Care Providers (ACPs) and staff delivering emergency care across the System’s six hospitals. The Department is responsible for the Carilion Transfer and Communications Center leading system patient care throughput as well as air and ground transport. Carilion is recognized as a regional leader for comprehensive care providing contemporary emergency services while advancing the academic mission.

The Chair will oversee the Department’s clinical entities through effective operational and financial leadership to advance the breadth and support the scope of services. They will provide strategic leadership of adult and pediatric emergency services and have the opportunity to shape the advancement of a comprehensive emergency medicine clinical care model.

The successful candidate will be a transparent, visible and accomplished leader with a reputation as an outstanding clinician, communicator, and educator. This leader will have a passion for clinical excellence and providing an environment conducive to advancing the organizations' missions. Candidates must hold an M.D./D.O. and board certification in Emergency Medicine.
