VICE CHAIR FOR CLINICAL OPERATIONS, Department of Anesthesiology
The Washington University Department of Anesthesiology is inviting applications for an exciting and critically important senior leadership role within one of the country s preeminent academic anesthesiology departments. The department s clinical practice is located on seven campuses with 132 anesthetizing locations with more than 102,000 cases annually. The department includes 140 faculty members and 179 advanced practice providers. The robust training programs include 70 residents and 21 clinical fellows.

The Vice-Chair for Clinical Operations (VCCO) responsibilities will encompass partnering with the department Chair and Executive Director in managing the clinical business and administrative affairs of the department and providing expertise in the areas of finance, strategic planning, program development, clinical operations administration, human resource management, physical space management, information systems and contract/affiliation negotiations and management.
The VCCO will support Division Chiefs and faculty in the development and implementation of strategy and policies. In collaboration with other clinical leaders, the VCCO will plan, lead, organize and direct the entire clinical enterprise within the Department. The VCCO s overarching goal is to help ensure that the department is efficient, effective, and clinically outstanding, and that we continue to enjoy financial health and clinical growth. The VCCO will help to drive strategic planning for the department and will promote success in all four of our missions: clinical excellence, knowledge advancement, outstanding education, and professional development. On many occasions, the VCCO will represent the Chair and Department as the physician executive in meetings with the University, Medical School, other departments, affiliate hospitals, and leaders across the medical center.
Qualified candidates will be ABA Board Certified in Anesthesiology. A master degree in health administration, business administration, finance, or a related field is highly desirable. To be successful, significant leadership experience in an academic department, a multi-specialty group practice, faculty practice plan, teaching hospital, research center, consulting firm, or other setting which otherwise demonstrates ability to manage a progressive, complex, multi-divisional, preferably multi-site, academic department is necessary as is the ability to accurately analyze complex financial and accounting data and effectively communicate it to faculty, administrators, health care professionals.
