Search for the Senior Associate Dean for Education

Medical College of Wisconsin, School of Medicine

Milwaukee, Wisconsin

The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) invites applications and nominations for the Senior Associate Dean for Education (SAD-E) in the School of Medicine. Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned medical education leader to enhance and oversee a complex education enterprise that spans student life, student inclusion and diversity, curriculum, educational improvement, and admissions at an institution poised for further growth and innovation. The next SAD-E must strengthen the academic enterprise and keep abreast of operational and programmatic changes to ensure that students and trainees are receiving, and faculty are providing, well-coordinated and high-quality educational programs.

MCW is a large, private, emerging health sciences university that has a long-standing reputation for providing outstanding medical and graduate education, cutting-edge biomedical research, innovative and compassionate patient care, and improving the health of the communities it serves. With campuses in Milwaukee, Green Bay and Central Wisconsin, MCW has played a substantial role in transformational learning across Wisconsin and has trained approximately 50% of the physicians who currently practice in the State of Wisconsin through its undergraduate medical education and graduate medical education programs. MCW employs one of the largest academic physician practices in the United States and collaborates with several hospital systems (including Children’s Wisconsin, Froedtert Health, and the Zablocki Veteran’s Hospital) to provide a rich experience for its students and trainees.

The SAD-E reports to the Dean of the School of Medicine, is a critical member of the Dean’s leadership team, and collaborates closely with the leadership across the health sciences campus. A plan to redesign the School of Medicine curriculum was launched with an anticipated implementation date of fall 2023. This redesign aims to address core competencies mindful of new technology and modalities of learning with the goal of producing competent, well-rounded physicians who are prepared to practice in the future healthcare environment. The SAD-E has the opportunity to champion this effort and direct its implementation.

The SAD-E will bring keen knowledge of the trends in medical education and the changing healthcare landscape to coalesce a vision for medical education at MCW. They will be well versed in curriculum innovation and implementation, forge partnerships to support medical education, and bring a commitment to inspire collaboration among stakeholders. The successful candidate will need to be an empathetic relationship builder who can strengthen a culture grounded in inclusion and equity of opportunity as well as champion student performance and well-being. The SAD-E will have an MD degree and have a record that is commensurate with appointment at the rank of full professor. To succeed in this role, this individual must embrace the mission, culture, and strategic direction of MCW, excel as an effective collaborator and communicator, and possess the leadership skills necessary to adapt to and lead transformative change.

Please direct inquiries, nominations, and applications to Isaacson, Miller, the national executive search firm assisting with the search. All replies will be held in strict confidence. Correspondence and applications, which should include a CV and letter of interest, should be submitted electronically to Jamie Sands and Jane McInerney via https://www.imsearch.com/7960.

As an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer, MCW recognizes the power of a diverse community and encourages applications from individuals with varied experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds.
