Director

University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center

The University of Hawai‘i Cancer Center (Center) seeks a new Director to lead it to the next level of achievement and build on the recent major expansion of its basic, clinical, and population science research programs. This includes oversight of the construction and implementation of the Early Phase Clinical Trials program. The Center occupies a beautiful, ocean-front, state-of-the-art research building, exceeding 100,000 sf.

The Center is the only National Cancer Institute-designated Cancer Center within 2,000 miles and serves the State of Hawai‘i, as well as neighboring Pacific Basin populations, providing access to  innovative clinical trials. The Center honors and acknowledges the rich contributions of Hawai‘i’s ‘aina (natural environment) and people and is committed to work with these in the development and utilization of new and unique innovative cancer control approaches for the health of all of our people. In this way, the Center seeks to be a world leader in understanding the genetic, environmental and behavioral causes of cancer while also eliminating cancer through research, education and improved patient care.

The Director will report directly to the Provost and will provide scientific leadership to build on the Center’s accomplishments and further advance its mission. The Director is expected to devote part of his/her efforts to philanthropy to raise additional resources, and to lead the faculty in the development of relevant and innovative research and training programs, including those afforded by State and grant support. The Director will also be responsible for ensuring that the Center is positioned to continually maintain its NCI designation.
