Duties/Responsibilities: Incumbent will be assigned to the Martinez VA Outpatient Clinic and reports to the Chief of Nephrology who is stationed at the Sacramento VAMC. The position will encompass the breadth of clinical care, including inpatient consultation at Community Living Center (CLC) and Center for Rehabilitation and Extended Care (CREC), outpatient clinic and outpatient dialysis rounding. The Nephrologist is charged with delivering the best possible renal care to our Veteran patients. This care must be delivered in accordance with facility policy and meet community standards as it pertains to outpatients as well as inpatients. Proficiency in peritoneal dialysis is required. Proficiency in renal biopsies or placement of catheters is not required. Research interest is encouraged, but not required. Dedicated time may be set aside for research for qualified applicants.

Tour of duty: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, no on-call or weekends

Candidates must: 1) be a US citizen or PRA, Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with [38 U.S.C. 7407(a)]; 2) possess a current, full, unrestricted medical license in any state, and 3) board prepared/certified in Internal or Family Medicine and Nephrology. Preferred experience: Best qualified candidates will be board certified in Nephrology.

Potential Incentives: Recruitment/Relocation Incentive and Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) offering $200,000 over five-years TAX FREE may be authorized for highly qualified candidates pending available funding.

Benefits: 208 hours (5.2 weeks) paid vacation (full-time physicians earn 8 hours each pay period upon employment); 104 hours (2.6 weeks) paid sick leave (full-time physicians earn 4 hours pay period upon employment, no cap); 11 paid Federal holidays (any time clinics are closed you get time-off with pay and does not come out of paid vacation); Competitive Salary; Annual Physician Performance Pay; Malpractice protection with tail coverage covered by the Federal government; CME- 1 week paid authorized absence to attend and after 1 year of employment $1,000 per year stipend toward CME if BC (does not come out of paid vacation); No Physician Employment Contract; no significant restriction on moonlighting
