Position description
Division Chief for Gastroenterology. The Department of Medicine at University of California, San Diego, Department of Medicine (http://med.ucsd.edu/) is actively recruiting to fill the tenured position of Chief, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.

The Department of Medicine and Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology are committed to academic excellence and diversity across the faculty, staff, and student body. In 2020, US News & World Report named the University of California San Diego Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology #1 in the world for research, and in 2021, US News & World Report named UC San Diego Gastroenterology and Gastrointestinal Surgery #18 in the United States for clinical care.

The UCSD Gastroenterology faculty consists of over 75 faculty and 45 staff members. Clinical care, research, and teaching by faculty members occur at UC San Diego Health and the VA San Diego Medical Center. UCSD GI and Hepatology faculty receive over $35 million in grant funding each year, including $11 million from the NIH. The Division has innovative clinical programs in inflammatory bowel disease, transplant hepatology, motility and advanced endoscopy, outstanding general GI, and T32 funded fellowship programs. The NIH funded San Diego Digestive Diseases Research Center is a national leader in basic, translational, and clinical gastrointestinal and liver research.

The Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated passion for delivery of outstanding patient care, a track record of outstanding research, a track record of excellent teaching, successful leadership experience, and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

The appointment is intended to be at the Associate or Full Professor. Series will include 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding or 100% Ladder Rank. However, rank and series of appointment will be based on skills and qualifications of the candidate. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.

Qualifications Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD with an emphasis relevant to Gastroenterology and Hepatology. Candidates must have, or be eligible for, a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California and must be board certified or eligible in Gastroenterology.

Candidates must also have national recognition in clinical, translational, and/or basic research with a history of extramural research funding and publications in high impact journals.Preferred qualifications
