Thoracic Surgery

University of Michigan Health-West and the Cancer Network of West Michigan are seeking a board certified/board eligible General Thoracic Surgeon to join an innovative, collaborative practice environment. The ideal candidate should have skills and experience in surgery for both malignant and benign thoracic processes, including the full spectrum of pulmonary, esophageal, mediastinal and chest wall disease. Also, they should have experience in minimally invasive thoracic surgery (VATS), laparoscopic, and ideally robotic expertise.

This is an opportunity to work for the newly created University of Michigan Health Partners (UMHP), formerly known as the University of Michigan Health-West. For the interested candidate, an Adjunct Faculty appointment within the Section of Thoracic Surgery, Department of Surgery can be granted, subject to the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) criteria for faculty appointments. The Section of Thoracic Surgery will support this position through joint tumor board conferences, teaching conferences, and cross coverage as possible. The candidate will also be a teaching faculty for the University of Michigan Health-West General Surgery Program.

This is truly a unique opportunity. Soon, University of Michigan Health-West hopes to launch a new Cardiothoracic Surgery program within Grand Rapids which will be the region s second Cardiothoracic Surgery program.

The recent agreement to develop The Cancer Network of West Michigan, a joint venture between Mercy Health and University of Michigan Health-West University of Michigan Health, leverages the combined resources and capabilities of the two West Michigan health systems and Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan. While the Cancer Network of West Michigan encompasses three West Michigan campuses including: University of Michigan Health-West located in Wyoming, Mercy Saint Mary s located in Grand Rapids and Mercy Muskegon located in Muskegon, this position would be centered at University of Michigan Health-West.
