Academic Orthopaedic Hand Surgeon
The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn NY is seeking a BE/BC academic orthopaedic hand surgeon. Fellowship training or equivalent experience in hand surgery is required, ideally with sub-specialization in microvascular surgery.
The candidate must be interested in scholarly endeavors and the promotion of research activities. A strong commitment to patient care as well as the teaching of residents, medical students, nurses and other healthcare providers is required. Strong clinical, administrative and interpersonal skills are required. The successful candidate is expected to assume administrative responsibilities, mentor residents, develop a referral program and conduct research.
The SUNY Downstate Medical Center is the only academic medical center in Brooklyn, a borough of 2.7 million people and the largest medical school in the state. There is a large existing patient population in place that will allow the candidate to quickly establish a large clinical practice. The program has three integrated affiliates all in need of hand coverage. Serving as a tertiary referral center for a large multicultural population, the pathology is challenging and diverse.
