Staff Clinician Position (Endocrinologists)

Office of the Clinical Director

National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases

National Institutes of Health

Department of Health and Human Services

Bethesda, Maryland, USA

The Office of Clinical Director, The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH), is seeking an experienced physician to serve as a staff clinician and associate program director in the ACGME- accredited adult endocrinology fellowship within the Inter-Institute Endocrinology Training Program (IETP) and to design and conduct clinical trials in collaboration with the principal investigator within the Integrative Physiology Section, Laboratory of Biological Modeling.

This is an exciting opportunity to oversee the NIH intramural research program’s renowned, ACGME- accredited adult endocrinology fellowship, an established world leader training over 200 academic physician scientists, many becoming leaders in the field. As part of the faculty, the Staff Clinician will supervise and mentor clinical fellows; develop the educational curriculum; coordinate schedules and rotations; and ensure the program meets accreditation requirements with the goal of preparing participants for board eligibility and leadership in clinical research.

The Integrative Physiology Section conducts clinical studies to investigate: (1) how diet and physical activity interventions influence the endocrine system, metabolism, and body composition; (2) how different aspects of the food environment affect eating behavior with downstream effects on the endocrine system, metabolism, and body composition; (3) how differences in brain neurocircuitry relate to obesity and eating behavior; and (4) how diet affects the brain.

An attractive Federal Government employee benefits package includes health and life insurance coverage, a retirement savings program, student loan repayment and relocation expenses.

Eligibility: Applicants must hold an M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree and be ABIM board certified in the subspecialty of endocrinology, diabetes, and metabolism. Prior mentoring or fellowship training experience preferred. Candidates may be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or possess (or be eligible for) an appropriate work visa and must have successfully completed subspecialty training at a U.S. accredited institution.
