The Person: We are seeking an exceptional candidate to serve as a Staff Physician (Occupational Medicine) for the Occupational Medicine Service (OMS) within the Division of Occupational Health and Safety (DOHS). The ideal candidate will be an energetic, patient focused, team player who is board certified/eligible in Occupational or Environmental Medicine or board certified in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Preventive Medicine with relevant experience in providing health services for employees engaged in bio-medical research and hospital-based patient care. This position is responsible for providing work-related medical support for a large and complex biomedical research enterprise involving over 37,000 full time employees and contractors, 2,000 laboratories (including ABSL-3 and -4 laboratories), and a quaternary-care hospital.

The incumbent will report to the Director, OMS.

The Challenge: The Physician (Occupational Medicine) is an integral member of the NIH Occupational Medicine team who will work with other physicians, mid-level providers, nurses, safety and industrial hygiene experts, and administrative staff to provide outstanding patient care and facilitate the health and safety of the NIH population. The incumbent provides expert clinical care for potential exposures to a wide variety biological, chemical, radiologic, and physical hazards (including Risk Group 3 and 4 agents), novel agents designed for experimental use (for example Simian Immunodeficiency Virus, lentiviral vectors), routine care and follow-up for work related injuries and illnesses, and medical support for health surveillance and pre-employment programs. The successful candidate must have the ability to integrate information from a wide variety of sources and apply it to novel patient problems.

Position Requirements: Candidates must be licensed physicians (M.D. or D.O.) in a U.S. State, Territory, or the District of Columbia. Board certification in Occupational Medicine is preferred. Candidates with board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Preventive Medicine with relevant clinical experience and training will also be favorably considered. A solid clinical background in adult ambulatory care medicine (a minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible clinical care for adults) is preferred. A demonstrated ability to design, develop, and implement procedures that mid-level providers, nurses, technicians, and administrative staff may reference to provide consistent, high quality clinical and administrative support is required. Excellent communication skills (oral and written) are essential. The successful candidate is subject to a background investigation and public financial disclosure requirements.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. A recruitment or relocation incentive may be available, and relocation expenses may be paid.
