Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN seeks an Assistant Professor of Surgery to serve as a transplantation surgeon in the position of assistant professor of surgery at VUMC, an academic medical center. Responsible for teaching and training students, residents, and fellows while performing surgery in the operating room. Perform deceased-donor abdominal multi-organ procurement on behalf of VUMC. Attend on the adult hepatobiliary and liver transplantation service. Perform outpatient services in-clinic. Evaluate patient medical history, physical conditions, medication allergies and examination results. 

Examine patients to attain information on surgical risk and medical condition. Identify the need for tests or follow-up visits. Refer patients to medical specialists or varied practitioners when required. Verify an operations necessity and identify best procedures. Determine which instruments and methods of surgery will be most successful in achieving desired outcomes. Perform research to prepare as well as to test surgical techniques to improve operating methods and outcomes. Manage, direct and perform surgical services. Provide treatments (such as surgery or the administration of medicine) in hospital wards, in clinics, and in operating rooms. Consult and assist in surgeries with varied physicians and other surgeons. Direct as well as coordinate tasks assistants, specialists, nurses, residents and varied medical staff. Develop surgery-related case histories. provide charting in compliance with all laws and regulations. Examine equipment, instruments, and the operating room to assure sterility. Ensure the procurement of supplies and equipment. Ensure the harmony of academic surgery best practices along with community best practices. Provide highly-advanced treatments for all liver diseases.

Requirements: Doctor of Medicine degree (or foreign equivalent) is required. Two years of training required in an American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS) approved fellowship in organ transplantation and hepatobiliary surgery. Must be board certified in the state of Tennessee.
