Boca Raton Regional Hospital, a part of Baptist Health South Florida, along with its academic partner, The Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine at Florida Atlantic University, are seeking an outstanding faculty member at the rank of Associate or Full Professor of Surgery and Residency Program Director for General Surgery. This leadership position requires major effort in teaching, leadership, scholarship, innovation and service in General Surgery and its sub-specialties. The specific instructional role will include a combination of direct teaching, developing instructional materials, curriculum design, and other roles including medical student support as determined by the developing needs of the College of Medicine. Faculty with expertise in teaching of residents in general surgery and experience as residency director or associate director may apply.  A track record of meaningful, ongoing scholarly activity is required.

Preferred surgical subspecialties for this role include Surgical Oncology, Thoracic Surgery, Endocrine Surgery, and Bariatric Surgery. This position will offer significant clinical practice opportunities to include inpatient and outpatient services as part of Baptist Health Medical Group North and Boca Raton Regional Hospital.

Our mission is to produce surgical residents as graduates who are prepared and motivated to play a central role in the achievement of three critical state goals: (1) providing the highest quality health care to Florida's citizens; (2) assuring that the state has the requisite number of medical faculty required to support Florida's medical schools and assure continued access to medical education opportunities in Florida; and (3) producing physician-scientists with the knowledge and skills required to transform healthcare and biomedical research in the state. Faculty will collaborate in the development of the five-year curriculum. The focus of this position is graduate medical education of residents in general surgery in a five-year curriculum with a value-added sixth year in research.

Applicants must hold a M.D. or D.O. from an accredited institution and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of assistant professor or higher, and American Board of Surgery active (ABMS) board certification in General Surgery with significant teaching experience and demonstrated teaching excellence. The preferred candidate has served as core faculty of a general surgery residency or as residency associate program director or program director. Experience as a course or clerkship director is desirable. The ability to effectively communicate with a variety of students, residents, fellows, and employees from widely diverse backgrounds is required.
