Tenet Healthcare, along with Children s Hospital of Michigan is seeking to recruit a Division Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery.

About the Opportunity:

The Neurosurgery program at the Children s Hospital of Michigan is ranked among America s best and have consistently ranked in the top 50 programs by the U.S. News & World report for the last decade. The division treats the most children needing inpatient neurosurgical care in the State of Michigan.

The Chief of Pediatric Neurosurgery is responsible for the development and implementation of the strategic plans for neurosurgical services and research. In conjunction with the program director, they will also be responsible for providing high quality educational experiences to the residents. The Chief will have an academic appointment with Wayne State and will have funding for research through an endowed chair for Pediatric Neurosurgery.

The Chief provides clinical leadership in the decision and policy making to support exceptional quality care, excellence in graduate medical education, and growing clinical research activity to advance Children s Hospital of Michigan as the leading pediatric neurosurgical provider in the region and nation. The Chief builds strong collaborative partnerships within and among disciplines, including a strong emphasis on relationships with referring physicians in the surrounding communities.

The Chief of Neurosurgery has direct responsibility for the division s faculty practice, which is currently comprised of 4 physician faculty members and a specialized trained team of physician assistants, pediatric nurse practitioners, and registered nurses that play an important role in providing exceptional, family-centered care. The position also works closely with the other pediatric specialty division chiefs and the hospital s administrative and clinical leaders.

It is expected that the Chief will develop and maintain an active clinical practice and will have one day of clinic per week with the remaining four weekdays being split between OR time, research, covering the floor, and administrative responsibilities. All physicians attend a weekly conference with radiology to review cases on Friday mornings.

Call is divided equally among the division members and is 7:00AM-7:00PM for weekdays and 7:00AM Friday 7:00AM Monday. Experienced NPPs cover the hospital 24/7.

Candidate Requirements

  • Must be board certified (or board eligible) in Adult and Pediatric Neurosurgery
  • The ideal candidate will have at least 7 years of functional neurosurgery experience (tumor, epilepsy, congenital spine)
  • Teaching experience preferred
  • Leadership experienced preferred
  • Some administrative experience (committee assignments)
  • Michigan licensed or eligible to obtain licensure in the State of Michigan
