Medical Director, Occupational Health

Washington University School of Medicine

St. Louis, Missouri

Washington University School of Medicine, the fourth largest employer in the St. Louis area with nearly 18,000 employees, is seeking a dynamic and experienced physician leader to serve as Medical Director of Occupational Health.  This is a fantastic position for a physician leader with interest in research, teaching and scholarly activity along with providing strategic leadership to enhancing occupational health services for one of the nation’s leading academic research institutions.  Our extensive research and clinical enterprises would provide for a wide variety of interesting and challenging cases and policy and procedural initiatives.  We are seeking someone to advance our program; not manage the status quo.

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Clinical Affairs and CEO of Washington University Physicians, the Medical Director of Occupational Health will provide strategic leadership in establishing policies, procedures and guidelines designed to ensure clinical best practices support the university’s occupational health services.  The Medical Director is responsible for the provision and medical management of care for work-related injuries or illness, physical examinations, and medical surveillance and prevention.  The Medical Director holds an integral leadership position and will work collaboratively across institutional and organizational boundaries to ensure effective public health strategies for employees during emergency settings including the current COVID-19 pandemic.

As faculty of a major research institution, you would have opportunity to pursue research, academic scholarship, and teaching in a highly collaborative environment; faculty appointment commensurate with experience.

Qualified candidates will be an M.D. or D.O. with three to five (3-5) years of experience in occupational medicine, be qualified to secure an unrestricted Missouri medical license and hold board certification in internal medicine, family medicine, emergency medicine or occupational medicine.  Experience in oversight and management of an environmental safety program desired but not required.
