The Physician Champion of UNC Health?s Virtual Care Center is a dynamic, experienced physician leader who is passionate about transforming the future of healthcare, acting in a telehealth ambassador role for the health care system. He / She acts as a liaison between system clinicians and the Virtual Care leadership to promote implementation and operations of telehealth programs within UNC Health Care. The position works closely with the Virtual Care Medical Directors to ensure the highest level of quality and clinical design of programs.


The Physician Champion will bridge between the users and the Virtual Care Center team, focusing heavily on clinical components, implementation, workflows and process improvement

Liaise with departments, practices and providers to ensure delivery of effective and efficient patient centered care using telemedicine

Provide clinical expertise and interface with clinicians for program design, implementation and operations

Educate clinicians on optimal use of this tool to improve care, decrease care variation and decrease the cost of care

Promote virtual care technology and communicate new or enhanced functionality to providers

Support the system-level telemedicine platform to improve care access for acute and chronic conditions

Organize and lead clinical user groups address concerns and recommend improvements

Assist in gathering requirements and assessing workflows to identify programs and software that meet the needs of the patients and providers


Current employed clinician providing healthcare services within UNC Health  Unrestricted North Carolina Medical License, DEA license. Board certified in area of specialty  Must possess a strong knowledge of clinical processes and operations in a large health care system  At least one year of experience with quality and performance improvement required  Two or more years of management experience in healthcare related roles preferred  Experience with telehealth and telemedicine programs and initiatives  Direct involvement with clinical and integrated IT system planning, implementation, and support in a healthcare setting  Excellent communication and facilitation skills, and ability to prepare and deliver presentations  Highly motivated and possess intellectual curiosity, vision and enthusiasm  Must be able to build trust and consensus, lead change, and activate support among diverse stakeholder groups  Must be a strategic thinker and problem solver with a patient-centered attitude and strong customer service
